A total of 8 card slots are available in the chassis frame. 6 slots can be used for analogue cards each with 8 channels giving a total of 48 AD/DA input and outputs.

The standard interface has the following capability:

Interface for Protools on SDR (min) connectors with 16 or 64 mono I/O channels

Note that IP Audio via Dante is an option that has to be installed in the AX32.

DX32 is a versatile digital audio interface and matrix designed for multiple audio applications such as multi-room recording studios, post-production facilities and audio distribution installations. It allows all digital input and output routing to be managed on a mono channel basis within a single unit or a combination of units.

With near zero latency, the DX32 can be used to expand I/O channel count and interface digital components, providing a high quality bridge between AES/EBU, MADI, Pro Tools HDX and the Dante IP audio network….

Signal routing

DX32 include a 384×384 multiplexer,enabling all digital inputs and outputs to be routed in any combination;  this enables the unit to also split signals for advanced signal distribution.

IP Audio powered by Dante

The DX32 IP Audio protocol is based on the robust tried-and-tested Dante™ digital audio network
technology, and will interoperate with products of other brands that comply with Dante.  The protocol will provide AVB as well as AES67  support once standardization is fully completed.  The Dante and NTP IP Audio formats provide fast, flexible, and economical audio routing via IP and are compatible with the AX32 AD/DA converter, and other Dante devices.  The IP Audio routing provides Low latency, tightly synchronized, transport of uncompressed audio over Gigabit IP Ethernet Layer 3 networks using off-the-shelf switches, and routers for audio routing via one or more sub-nets.  A total of 512 channels can be routed on a 1 Gigabit network, and more if the network capacity is higher.

Control

DX32 is TCP/IP controlled via one of the two Ethernet ports using the DADman Control software, available for both Windows and OSX.  The routing of the IP audio via Dante is done by using the Audinate Dante controller software.

 

Pro | Mon Monitor Control Option

The Pro | Mon  Monitor Control option enables the AX32 AD/DA Converter and digital matrix, as well as the DX32 Digital audio interface and matrix, to operate as an audio signal processor providing high resolution signal summing and low latency routing of monitor signals. The monitor control is managed via the DADman 4.2 software application, which has support for the EUCON 3 control protocol, enabling full control of the monitor functionality from the Avid S6 control surface.

DADman EUCON Control

The complete monitor control system consist of an AX32 or DX32 converter interface with the DADman software application running on a Windows or a MAC computer, which is communicating via EUCON on Gigabit Ethernet, enabling the operation of the monitor control from the Avid S6 Control Surface.

Monitor Matrix & Processing

The monitor control is able to set the listening levels, Dim, and Cut of a main control room speaker set and two alternate speaker sets.  Further more, four monitor sets can be controlled with level and cut.   The signal output configuration of each speaker and monitor set can be configured to any format: mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1, and multi channel up to 64 channels, using any of the audio outputs of the DAD converter interface in any combination.  The sources for monitoring can be selected from any of configured signal sources.  Sources can be routed to a monitor output as switched, or more sources can be summed to a control room speaker or monitor output providing Stem summing functionality.  As for the outputs, source inputs can be configured to any format with any combination of audio inputs of the DAD converter interface.

Talk back functionality is available for any of the control room speaker and monitor outputs, and the talk back can activate Cut or Dim on any output as well.

On each of the control room speaker and monitor outputs a Folddown function can be applied.  The Folddown can comprise of any of the 7 formats:  Mono, Stereo, Left-Center-Right, Left-Center-Right-Sub, 5.1, 7.1 and 9.1 surround formats;  on both the sources , and the speaker and monitor outputs.

 

DADman Control Software

DADman is a software application for control of the DAD AD/DA converters and Digital Audio Bridge.  The current version of DADman software provides automation for:  Pro Tools HD via EUCON;  Mackie C4 via MIDI;  and is compatible with the DX32, AX32, and AX24. 

DADman v.3.x and v. 4.x can run on both Windows PC with XP/W7/W8 or MAC PC with OS X. DADman v.2.x can only run on Windows up to XP.  DADman v.4.x controls both the AX32 and the AX24 converter models, DADman v.3.x works only with AX24 and DADman v.2.0 supports AX24 and ADDA 2408.run on both Windows PC with XP or MAC PC with OS X.  DADman 2.0 is the version for operating on windows, also supporting the ADDA2408 products.  DADman 3.1 is available in a version for PC and one for Intel and Power PC MAC platforms
